Scheduling Tests & Student Teaching

It is November already, and the end of November at that. Why does it always feel like the first 6 months of the year drag on while the last 6 zooms by?

Anyway, I just scheduled my PRAXIS Core exam for January and I have 8 weeks to study. I really would like to pass the first go since I have to travel to Seoul to take the exam, which is not only expensive but difficult to do with young kids at home. I initially wanted to knock out the Core and PLT, but the first exam is 5 hours and the latter 2… that’s just a bit too grueling for me. I will have to travel and take three exams in the new year; the core, the PLT, and the content exam, which is also 5 hours long!

My goal is to complete the core, and maybe the PLT before March, which is when I will start my student teaching! This leads me to explain my long absence from updating my progress with the program. In July I completed Module 6, after which was the preparation for student teaching. Unfortunately, I was not able to arrange placement until the new year. The Teach-Now program is very accommodating and helpful in arranging a break; it was no issue explaining my circumstances and need to pick back up again in March.

The process is very straightforward, there is a request time off button on the platform where I submitted my request and arranged a meeting with a school representative. There is no time limit when taking time off, although it is advised to complete the program within two years. I was able to arrange my rejoin date and look forward to completing Modules 7 and 8 in 2022.

Since I have a few months, I have focused on studying for the PRAXIS exams. Teach Now does not require these exam scores for entry, however, they do need to be submitted to the board of education for licensure. Brushing up on math, English grammar, and test-taking, in general, has been somewhat fun, but I am still nervous. Now that I am officially scheduled, I really feel the push to organize my study plan and methodically apply myself these next 8 weeks to get passing scores.

I will create another post with the details for the Seoul testing location and info, as finding a contact number was a bit tricky!
